چکیده

The Mumford-Shah functional for image segmentation is an original approach of the image segmentation problem, based on a minimal energy criterion. Its minimization can be seen as a free discontinuity problem and is based on Γ-convergence and bounded variation functions theories. Some new regularization results, make possible to imagine a finite element resolution method. In a first time, the Mumford-Shah functional is introduced and some existing results are quoted. Then, a discrete formulation for the Mumford-Shah problem is proposed and its Γ-convergence is proved. Finally, some numerical results, computed from both artificial and real images are presented and discussed. AMS Subject Classification. 68U10, 65N30. Received: November 4, 1997. Revised: February 18, 1998. Introduction Our aim is to minimize the functional proposed by Mumford and Shah [12] in the problem of image segmentation, namely E(u,Γ) = β ∫

Domain Decomposition Method for a Finite Element Algorithm for Image Segmentation

Computer-based image segmentation is a common task when analyzing and classifying images in a broad range of applications. Problems arise when it comes to the computation of segmentations for huge datasets like high-resolution microscope or satellite scans or three-dimensional magnetic resonance images appearing in medical image processing. The computation may exceed constraints like available ...

A Finite Element Computational Framework for Active Contours on Graphs

In this paper we present a new framework for the solution of active contour models on graphs. With the use of the Finite Element Method we generalize active contour models on graphs and reduce the problem from a partial differential equation to the solution of a sparse non-linear system. Additionally, we extend the proposed framework to solve models where the curve evolution is locally constrai...

Colour image segmentation by the vector-valued Allen-Cahn phase-field model: a multigrid solution

We present an efficient numerical solution of a PDE-driven model for color image segmentation and give numerical examples of the results. The method combines the vector-valued Allen-Cahn phase field equation with initial data fitting terms with prescribed interface width and fidelity constants. Efficient numerical solution is achieved using a multigrid splitting of a finite element space, there...

A Pixon-based Image Segmentation Method Considering Textural Characteristics of Image

Image segmentation is an essential and critical process in image processing and pattern recognition. In this paper we proposed a textured-based method to segment an input image into regions. In our method an entropy-based textured map of image is extracted, followed by an histogram equalization step to discriminate different regions. Then with the aim of eliminating unnecessary details and achi...

Evaluation of Retinal Optic Disc Segmentation in Patients with Glaucoma and Comparison with Other Methods of Medical Image Processing

Introduction: Glaucoma is the most common cause of blindness in some countries. In the meantime, the field of retinal image processing has been proposed in order to provide automatic systems for disease diagnosis. Among the methods of medical image processing, image segmentation is a process of identification and change in the display of an image. The objective of this study was to use t...
